Starbucks and Recycling

We proudly get to work with many great companies, ones that share our vision of a brighter and greener future. One of these companies is Starbucks. If you know anything about Starbuck’s brand mantra it’s not only to be trendy but to be eco-responsible.

As stated on the company website under one of many company initiatives, Recycling and Reducing Waste

“Starbucks is committed to significantly reducing and diverting the waste our stores generate, and recycling is just one way in which we do this.
But while recycling seems like a simple, straightforward initiative, it’s actually extremely challenging. Not only are there municipal barriers to successful recycling in many cities, but it takes significant changes in behavior to get it right. One wrong item in a recycle bin can render the entire can unrecyclable to the hauler. Local municipalities, landlords, customers, baristas, and even adjacent businesses all have to work together to keep recyclable materials out of the landfill.” http://www.starbucks.com/responsibility/environment/recycling

We know how true that statement is and the challenges recycling faces to become more efficent. Today Starbucks launched a new campaign to use recyclable cups for $1 to reduce costs and waste. We applaud their efforts and are happy to be on board.

If you have been following our blog you already know that recently the Wall Street Journal covered the story of one of our employees Hector Morales. Hector's journey from being incarcerated to joining the Center of Employment Opportunities (CEO) to becoming a model member of our Action team is inspirational to say the least.

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) is dedicated to providing immediate, effective and comprehensive employment services to men and women with recent criminal convictions. The highly structured and tightly supervised programs help participants regain the skills and confidence needed for a successful transition to a stable, productive life.

We are so proud to be apart of this program and support those who want to work find a fulfilling career. Above is a video with members of the Action team including Head of Safety Ken Levine and CEO Ron Bergamini. Enjoy!
